Repertoire..."Story Detectives"
Recommended for Grades K – 3

Sue uses story to teach the four critical parts of a story – real or make-believe. With rhythm enhancements she teaches the students to look for people (character), places (setting), problems (conflict) and solutions (answers). The method of teaching solidly reinforces students’ identification of the aforementioned parts of story in a fun and unforgettable way. The program time is 30 – 45 minutes.

Principals and teachers have raved about the program presented as a valuable and exciting way to practice the skills mandatory for reading comprehension.

What they said...

"It was great! The kids (and I) loved it! We went back to class and practiced our 'detective' skills!" (Terri Matthews – Rusk Elementary)

"We've been discussing the same concepts in our classrooms all year and it was refreshing and exciting for my class to hear it elsewhere. I was also able to return to my room and use the strategies that Mrs. Roseberry used." (Cassandra Lyons – Ben Milam Elementary)

"The students were excited about Sue Roseberry's story. I was amazed at the higher order thinking and TEKS/TAAS skills that were covered during this event." (Kathy Knowles, Principal – Anson Jones Elementary)

"What a 'GREAT TREAT' for our second grade – most relative to what we do daily. She asked great questions and had such enthusiasm. Worked with description – an excellent skill for our grade." (Rita Parrett – Jane Long Elementary)

"Students were enthralled. Lesson presented tied in directly to our reading goals and strategies. I can go back to classroom and refer to this program." (Wilma Roberts – Greathouse Elementary)

"This was one of the VERY best experiences any of my classes have had. I've taught for 20 years! We had an excellent lesson in the classroom based on Sue's story – and it will be a tremendous link to teaching and learning all year. I have a student who is severely attention deficit. I have seldom seen him as attentive as I did today. Thank you very much." (Amy Craig – Bonham Elementary)
