AS I WALK...Christmas has to be my favorite time of the year. I love everything about it. I love the carols, the lights, the decorations, and the traditions. More than anything, I enjoy the “SPIRIT”. Yes, Christmas has a spirit. You can actually feel it. People are affected by it and there is generally a kinder and gentler attitude which is made evident in the way we respond to one another. Smiles are brighter. There is a pep in the step. People seem more optimistic, cheerful or full of hope.
Whatever the source or reason, I wish I could bottle and sell it. Nope...roll that back. I wish I could bottle and give it away! If we could keep that joy and hope that is associated with the holiday present with us the rest of the year, I believe it would impact our world in such a great way. Why? Because it would cause us to treat people with a greater level of respect and humanity all the time. Charitable organizations work extra hard to provide baskets of food for Christmas – but those families are hungry before and after that too. I would just love to see us put the same kind of caring into how we behave every day. And that is my strategy for changing the world – just one person at a time.
That one person may just be me. I’m focusing on making a difference where and when I can and hoping that every person who I encounter in the course of a day walks away feeling a little better or more encouraged. I want to make sure that I have the spirit of CHRIST in full function as I WALK ON!
